I was born in Antigonish and raised in Truro. After high school I spent two years at Mount Saint Vincent University. Shortly after that I met my first husband. We had two great kids, James and Samantha. I then had one more boy, Jon-Luc. Three years ago I made a lifechanging decision. I had no idea how lifechanging it would be!
My oldest son, James has a learning disability and was unable to get the education he needed in the public school system. Wolfville has a private school, Landmark East, that specializes in kids with ADHD. So I packed up all three kids and moved down with the intention of staying for three years and then going back home when James was ready to start high school.
However, things have changed and we are staying!!
Brian was born in Sydney. At the age of 1 his parents moved to Halifax where he lived til he turned 18. At that time his father was given the opportunity to open a new office for the Chronicle-Herald in the valley which he ran out of his house at first. It was shortly after that that Brian decided to join the fire department and has been a volunteer ever since.
Shortly after high school he married and had two kids, Sarah and Jeff. Eleven years later, his last little girl was born, Emma. And now he is about to take on a whole new family!!!
We had known each other since I moved to the Valley because of the kids. However, it took some time before we had any interest in one another. I was out with my friend one night and we ran into him. We ended up talking for the rest of the evening. Then I didn't hear from him again!! My friend and I went out again a month later and low and behold, he was there again. So we spent more time getting to know each other and this time he promised to call. It took him a couple of days but he did ( I guess he was playing it cool!)
After a couple of months of conversing by phone and text messaging we finally decided to tell the kids. I think it was more scary for us than the six of them. They didn't seem to care at all.
So, now here we are. Each of us moving from two families of four to one big blended family of eight!!! Just like the Brady Bunch!
